NBA Commissioner Adam Silver believes that teams resting their star players is “an extremely significant issue for our league.”
Silver sent out a memo to all the NBA owners on Monday informing teams that the issue will be a featured topic of discussion during the NBA Board of Governors meeting on April 6 in New York.
The Commissioner went on to say that there will be “significant penalties” if teams do not give prompt prior notice when it is decided that a team will be resting a player for any reason.
Adam Silver has already made changes to give players more rest throughout the season by shortening preseason and adding an extra week onto the regular season to space out games.
As a side note, it’s a bad look for the game and it seriously devalues an NBA game when star players sit out. It’s bad for business and it looks like Silver will look at implementing harsher rules regarding the matter.
