Joel Embiid ‘very likely’ to have knee surgery

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is “very likely” to have knee surgery in the coming days according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

Embiid suffered a partially torn left meniscus back on January 20 against the Portland Trailblazers and has not played since.

He is officially out for the season but the Sixers’ medical staff have been looking at different treatment options for the 23-year-old.

Prior to the injury, Embiid was the hot favorite to win the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award posting averages of 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks on 46.6% shooting from the field (36.7% from three). In the 31 games that Embiid featured in the Sixers were 13-18, which is impressive considering how bad Philadelphia has been over recent years.
